CJs is an “Approved BTDA Examination Centre” and registered with The Council for Dance Education and Training

Graded Examinations
These are taken in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, and Lyrical.They are all recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority of Great Britain. A success in Grade 5 is considered to be equivalent to gaining a GCSE. If pupils continue to take Major qualifications these then become the status of an A Level. There is also the opportunity to take a Diploma in Theatre Dance.

Rose Awards
These provide a stepping stone for junior students towards the comprehensive medal system. Candidates receive a certificate and a silver mounted cup for level 1 or a gold mounted cup for level 2. Pupils can take Rose Awards in Ballet, Tap. Modern Jazz and Lyrical.

Medals
Medal tests are held on exam days and these enable dancers to perform in front of an audience and so gain the necessary skills, experience and confidence required for a performance.

While we do not adhere strictly to a uniform during class, it is more beneficial for the dancer as it is easier for the teacher to see any incorrect techniques developing. For Modern Jazz and Street Dance own clothing should allow for a wide range of movement.

Pre-School / Prep / Primary / Intro 1 Ballet and Tap
Pink leotard, pink skirt, white ballet tights, pink ballet shoes with elastic, black tap shoes (with pink ribbons for exams). Pink wrap over cardigans can also be obtained.

Grade 1 – Major Examinations in Ballet and Tap
Black leotard, white ballet tights, purple elastic belt, ballet shoes (with ribbons for exams from major level only), black tap shoes (with purple ribbons for exams).

Rose Awards / Prep / Primary / Modern Jazz
Pink or black leotard, white ankle socks, black jazz shoes. Please note in exams at this level children dance barefoot.

Grade 1 – Major Examinations in Modern Jazz
Black leotard, black lycra leggings, purple elastic belt, white ankle socks, black jazz shoes.

Lyrical Examinations
Black leotard, lyrical skirt, bare feet.

Medals
Medals are all about individual style and performance, thus the costume should be chosen to match the style of dance and performers age.

Boys All Grades in Ballet
White cotton leotard, black leggings, white socks, black ballet shoes.

Boys All Grades in Tap and Modern Jazz
White t shirt or leotard and black jazz pants.

Modern Jazz and Streetdance
Casual wear is suitable for classes.
